The San Sebastian Fair specialized in indoor shows in both dance and theater is characterized by excellence in the selection and exhibition of the shows presented.

Boosting the performing arts market, mediating and interrelating its agents, and bringing novelty and innovation are basic objectives that are carefully monitored year after year, with special attention to promoting Basque companies.

Four days of intense activity that make dFERIA a festival for the city and a great party for professionals and amateurs, the festival of performing arts.!

FETEN 2018 begins

Thursday, February 15, 2018

“We don't want to fill the theaters with children; we want children to enjoy theater ”, Marián Osácar

Marián Osácar, director of FETEN

On the 18th, a new edition of the European Fair of Performing Arts for Boys and Girls, FETEN 2018, launches with the satisfaction of receiving new endorsements after the Max Award granted in the last edition and a 25th place in the Observatory of culture. This consultation prepared annually by the Contemporary Foundation, equates the event with festivals and spaces such as La Casa Encendida in Madrid, or Primavera Sound in Barcelona.

Marián Osácar, director of FETEN, sees the key to the success of the fair in the large influx. Good programming attracts professionals who see FETEN as a good work tool, this generates a wide range of possibilities for FETEN when it comes to choosing, growing and enriching themselves.

Another key to FETEN is the support of the public, who, with the school community and families, bring a large number of children to this festival.

European Fair of Performing Arts for Boys and Girls

FETEN 2018 begins

FETEN is a space that promotes exchanges and cooperation between the different sectors of creation and distribution of the performing arts, especially focused on children.

The importance and the enhancement acquired by the Theater for children in Spain and in practically all of Europe, raises the need for a place or space where to combine, exchange, share and enable interests, experiences, knowledge and direct links between programmers , companies and professionals in the environment; trying together to elevate and dignify an ever greater quality of the performing arts made for and by minors.

In all FETEN editions a fundamental structure is maintained. That is to say, a Fair nature, which brings together programmers, distributors ... from our country and Europe, with what this means to strengthen the market; but also, the exhibition of shows, discussion forums, book presentations, exhibitions, etc., which contribute to enhance and enrich everything that has to do with this aspect of culture.

Since the first edition, in 1991, and within its programming, a series of debates and meetings have been held with the firm intention of combining the educational fact with the theatrical, since the theater is a fundamental channel of expression and communication between the individual, society and culture. Proposals from leading specialists in the field of children's and youth theater from different points of view, contribute to making these debates a dynamic forum for approaching the problem of the theatrical event aimed at children and adolescents.

All this leads to FETEN having, not only the market aspect (exhibition of theatrical proposals and their hiring by promoters and programmers), but also a permanent and continuous debate framework.

Madrid in Dance 2017

Monday, November 13, 2017

33rd edition of the Madrid en Danza international festival from November 21 to December 17

Madrid in Dance 2017

The Madrid International Dance Festival reaches its 32nd edition, consolidating its philosophy of openness to all genres of the specialty and with a desire to shore up its cosmopolitanism, something that can be summarized in the fact of having a strong and unbreakable democratic principle with the dissemination of the arts of movement in all its extension and variety.

As its main purpose, Madrid en Danza is due to its audience, which is all of us, and that is why its program ranges from the great academic ballet to the new flamenco ballet, from dance-theater and international contemporary dance to the revitalization of style neoclassical and Spanish dance and its figures.

Madrid en Danza is also due to the progressive evolution in all channels and styles of expression, in the awareness that a large community like ours naturally harbors endless tastes and preferences.

That is why this year's program is designed with the firm intention of attending and including all the artists and trends that today populate the current panorama and the increasingly numerous offer.

This approach places the Madrid festival, one of the oldest in the Spanish State and undoubtedly the most traditional and prestigious, in the important task of choosing an annual program. Thus, we have explored new productions by established choreographers, emerging artists who are already more than a firm promise, and repertoire works that themselves represent the highest quality.

We are sensitive to the profound aesthetic changes that we are experiencing in this world, to the technological advances and the powerful craftsmanship that arises from the exchange with other branches of theatrical and plastic art.

Dance is change in itself and it has always been a fertile ground for experimentation and discoveries, a dynamic that we have tried to collect and show in the security of having an audience as numerous as it is faithful.

It's dance time in the Community of Madrid.

Meetings TE-VEO Valladolid 2017

Thursday, November 2, 2017

"JOVENES ENCUENTROS" Performing Arts Festival for children and youth from November 7 to 12

Meetings TE-VEO Valladolid 2017

From November 7 to 12, the Calderón Theater and the Valladolid Arts Laboratory (LAVA) will give their stages to the XIX Festival of performing arts for children and youth organized by the TE VEO Association and the Municipal Foundation of Culture.

This year the protagonists will be young people and the performing arts aimed at them.

We are going to give them the floor, we are going to go hand in hand to know what they want and how they want it. It is important that the shows talk about the issues that concern and concern them, we think that they need to identify with themes inherent to their moment of transition, with resources close to them such as: projections, contemporary dance, music, new technologies... and that is why we want to listen to them.

  • We are going to put the school campaigns aimed at young people in the spotlight because when the artists physically approach them, when the artists go to their study center or talk to them after the performance, a fundamental empathy is created so that they appreciate the work and labor behind a show.
  • We want to involve more local and regional entities so that they "attend" the artistic needs of these young people. We would like to walk alongside them because we believe that it is the only way to reach them.
  • For too many years we have been wondering why young people do not come to see shows and now we have the opportunity to have them in front of them, to ask them, to listen to them and above all to share with them places and spaces for meeting and getting closer. That is why these I See You Meetings have set the objective of putting the accent on facilitating communication between creators and young people.

We have thought of some "YOUNG ENCOUNTERS" almost exclusively directed at them and by them. With tables, workshops and shows designed for and by them.

Throughout 8 days we will have among us very close people who are working with them: Lucía Miranda and Nina Reglero, who will be in charge of opening the Meetings. And tables for reflection and debate with Juan Berzal (Ultramarinos de Lucas), Julia Carazo (LaSal Teatro), Jose María Viteri (director of the Calderón theater), La Nave of the Calderón theater (Noelia Toribio and María Sotelo), Esther Perez Arribas (Pie left Theater) and Jose Manuel Serrano from the Seville Emerging Festival. Workshops with "Strawberries with Cream".

22 MASDANZA 2017 - from Oct 14 to Nov 4

Tuesday, October 17, 2017

22 MASDANZA 2017

The International Festival of Contemporary Dance of the Canary Islands, baptized as MASDANZA, was born in Gran Canaria in 1996 at the initiative of Natalia Medina, director since its inception and, supported by the Department of Culture of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council. This Council was able to see and support this initiative in which an interest in covering an important area within the world of culture was glimpsed and that until then was not included in the program of activities of any public or private institution in the Canary Islands.

Since its beginnings in 1996, MASDANZA has been consolidating year after year, going from having a regional character in its first edition, to a national character in the second, and international from the sixth edition, acquiring a form beyond our borders and opening up to the participation of international creators.

MASDANZA, has acquired notoriety beyond our community, providing a new cultural alternative for the Canary Islands. We have the most reliable proof in the growing attendance of spectators in each edition, which thanks to their presence and curiosity to discover new creators and trends has allowed this Festival to reaffirm itself as a leader in the national and international arena.

At first the spectators were professionals and dance fans, but each year we have managed to awaken the interest of a lay public who have been able to discover a new and interesting form of artistic expression that until now seemed to be aimed at minorities.

MASDANZA has two official competition sections: Solo Contest and Choreographic Contest.

Parallel to the contest, different activities are carried out: Invited Companies, Break-Dance Championship, Masdanza Showcase, Dance Marathon, Exhibitions, Dance in Open Spaces, Conferences, Courses and Dance Workshops.

The Organization is sensitive to the difficulty that new creators face to open a gap in the professional scene, for this reason it guarantees the participation in important national and international meetings, circuits and dance spaces of the winning pieces, at the same time as supports dancers with scholarships and grants.

After 21 years we can say that MASDANZA is a launching pad for new local, national and international creators. And due to the geographic location of our islands, acts like MASDANZA demonstrate the TRANSCONTINENTALITY of the Canary Islands in this movement of people from Latin America-Africa-Europe.

MASDANZA, is an international showcase for the Canary Islands, which for a few days becomes the nerve center of the world avant-garde in dance and an unprecedented benchmark in this community.

Program 22 MASDANZA

MASDANZA offers in its XXII Edition a varied program of activities. Surprise yourself with the spectacular International Break-Dance Championship, XII Breaking MASDANZA, participate in its new section MASDANZA Cinema, experience the joy of children in the Section "Cultural Recreations", live outdoor dance in the Section "Dance in Spaces Open "and enjoy the performances in both Competitions helping to award the Audience Award.

65 San Sebastián Film Festival, without the intention of retiring

Last Thursday, September 22, a new edition of the prestigious San Sebastián Film Festival began with its shares of good cinema, glamor and honorary awards.

The person in charge of opening the contest was a classic of European cinema such as Wim Wenders accompanied by the Oscar-winning Alicia Vikander, with the screening of "immersion".

A jury presided over by John Malkovich will decide The Golden Shell and other winners at a star-studded festival where actors like Jean-Pierre Léaud and an entire ex-governor like Arnold Schwarzenegger coincide.

Donostias of all styles

Ricardo Darín, Monica Bellucci and Agnès Valda. A great Latin American actor, a world star and a legend of auteur cinema (who will receive the next honorary Oscar) are the three Donostia awards in 2017.

Among the great media presences are Antonio Banderas, who will receive the National Film Award; Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, presenting Loving Escobar; James Franco, who competes as director and actor with The disaster artist; and Glenn Close, who closes the official section with The Good Wife. The aforementioned Schwarzenegger clothes as producer Wonders of the Sea, an underwater documentary by Jacques Cousteau's son.

Leaving the red carpet, San Sebastián will once again collect the best films from other festivals in its Perlas section. The festival is attended by Ruben Östlund (Palme d'Or for The square), Ildikó Enyedi (Golden Bear for On body and soul), Todd Haynes (The Museum of Wonders), Hirokazu Koreeda and Michael Winterbottom. Also historical names such as documentary maker Frederick Wiseman or Carlos Saura.

65 San Sebastián Film Festival, without the intention of retiring

Spaniards for the Golden Shell

Three films, participated by RTVE, are part of the official section: Life and Nothing More (Life and nothing else), the second film by Antonio Méndez Esparza; Handia, the new bet by Jon Garaño and Aitor Arregi, director and scriptwriters of Loreak; and The author, by Manuel Martín Cuenca.

Out of competition, they are part, Marrowbone (The secret of Marrowbone), the debut in the direction of the screenwriter Sergio G. Sánchez (The orphanage, The impossible) and Morir, the second film by Fernando Franco after triumphing in Donostia with his debut: The wound.

The co-production Loving Pablo, the film about drug trafficker Pablo Escobar, directed by Fernando León de Aranoa and starring Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, will close the Perlas section. And The Call, the adaptation of the homonymous musical by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, will be screened at the Spanish Television gala.

Movies for internet platforms and series

The Cannes festival announced this year that it will no longer admit films that are not released in theaters (after showing two Netflix productions this year). San Sebastián, like Venice, has no problems and Fe de etarras, by Borja Cobeaga and produced for Netflix, participates out of competition.

The contest seeks to take the pulse of new times with the inclusion of series chapters: The first two chapters of La plague, Alberto Rodríguez's series for Movistar, are part of the official section out of competition. In addition, Vergüenza, a television series written and directed by Juan Cavestany and Álvaro Fernández Armero, will compete in the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section. Its ten chapters will be screened as a single almost five hour pass.

The presence of series is not strictly a novelty in Donostia, but it does abound in the debate on the role of festivals now that great authors accept the juicy offers of the internet giants, pay television and telecommunications companies.

We are in the middle of this edition already loaded with great references of this art, expected premieres and important awards, we must not lose sight of what remains of the contest until next day 30.

Through the official website www.sansebastianfestival.com we can find all the news of each day, information about the festival, the different sections and categories; as well as where and how to buy passes and tickets for the different screenings.
