The Circo Theater will enter the operating room about to celebrate its fifth anniversary

Thursday, May 12, 2016

The City Council awards 173,624 euros the reform to correct the work defects; work will start in July

The Circo Theater will enter the operating room about to celebrate its fifth anniversary
Scene from 'The dream of reason', represented in 2012 by the Ferroviaria company, in co-production with the Teatro Circo and with scenery by Ángel Haro. /Martínez Bueso

The Teatro Circo hopes to celebrate the fifth anniversary of its reopening on October 4. But before that, it will be out of tune for a few months due to the works that will be carried out to correct certain deficiencies that were pending to be resolved by the company that was awarded the contract. The City Council seized part of the guarantee to execute them in a subsidiary manner and on March 23, a temporary union of companies (UTE) was awarded the correction. Specifically, to Industrias Maquiescenic SL, Emurtel SA and Hidrogestión SA, at 173,624 euros and a five-month execution period. However, the coordinator of the Teatro Circo, Juan Pablo Soler, confirmed to 'La Verdad' that the works will not affect the programming, since they will take place in the months of July, August and September, in which the space has no activity . <The UTE has scheduled the works to begin in July, as soon as the programming ends in June, and they are expected to be well advanced by mid-September. This means that it will not affect the programming in any case, since we will begin next season on October 1>. A week before that date, according to Soler, the small room is scheduled to be used for the Creajoven de Artes Escénicas, <and there will be no problem>.

According to Soler, the works will basically consist of repairing all the roof motors, improving the soundproofing of the air conditioning machines and renovating the floor of the small room, since the current one is very deteriorated after a flood that occurred years ago. <None of the works directly affects the use of the main stage; in fact the works are compatible with the representations, but we have tried that they can be executed just in this period of less activity to avoid any inconvenience to the public>.

The repair of the stage engines, some of which have not been used, will allow different shows to be scheduled, although Soler clarifies that so far this problem has not been a 'handicap' for the normal operation of the facilities. Similarly, the lighting will improve.

Culture promotes four calls for aid worth 550,000 euros for the realization of artistic activities

Friday, May 06, 2016

The Department of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Government of Navarra has published this Tuesday in the BON four calls for the promotion of the arts worth 550,000 euros.

Culture promotes four calls for aid worth 550,000 euros

The first call is intended for the programming, by municipalities, of professional performing arts and musicals in municipal scenic spaces. The second encourages companies and professionals to hold performing arts and music events, festivals and contests.

For their part, the last two are intended for the organization and development of film festivals and competitions, one of which subsidizes proposals promoted by non-profit organizations and, the other, those organized by companies and professionals.

All these calls can be processed from this Wednesday, May 4 to May 26, inclusive, attaching the indicated documentation and presenting it in the Registry of the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth (Navarrería street, 39, 31001 Pamplona), or in any of the places provided for in article 38.4 of Law 30/1992, of November 26, on the Legal Regime of Public Administrations and the Common Administrative Procedure.

From Culture, those who present them in a different register than the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth are urged to notify it by means of an email addressed to the address difusion@navarra.es. The application form and other annexes may also be completed and processed through the Government of Navarra website.

THE CALLS

Specifically, the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth has approved a call endowed with 451,000 euros to support the programming of professional performing arts and musical shows carried out from November 6, 2015 to November 5, 2016, both inclusive.

In order to benefit from these grants, it is necessary to be a municipality of Navarra that owns a scenic space belonging to the Association Red de Teatros de Navarra, which meets the requirements set out in the call. The organizations or entities through which the municipalities directly manage these scenic spaces can also benefit.

The grant percentage will be a maximum of 80% of the eligible expenses of the accepted budget and the aid will be distributed proportionally and equitably among the beneficiaries based on the score obtained in the scale of the applications, according to the criteria established in the bases.

Likewise, another expense of 60,000 euros has been approved to provide a call to support the holding of events, festivals and performing arts and music competitions organized by companies and professionals, provided they are held in Navarra, from January 1 to November 9, 2016.

Applications may be submitted by individuals, communities of assets, any other type of economic unit or separate assets without legal personality, commercial companies, or civil companies with legal personality that do not adopt forms of commercial companies. However, regardless of their legal form, in any case they must be developing their activity and have their tax address in Navarra since January 1, 2015.

Local entities, their autonomous bodies, public business entities, foundations and public companies majority owned by them are expressly excluded in this call. Each applicant may submit a single proposal for a single project.

The amount of aid for each event, festival or contest may not exceed 15,000 euros, nor exceed 70% of the accepted budget, which will be the result of the budget presented by the entity, reduced by the amounts corresponding to ineligible expenses, in accordance with what is established in the bases of the call.

ORGANIZATION OF FESTIVALS AND COMPETITIONS

Another of the calls allocates 20,000 euros to the organization of film festivals and contests that are held in Navarra, from December 1, 2015 to November 18, 2016, promoted by non-profit organizations.

Film festivals and competitions must have a cultural or artistic character and content, as well as having previously held at least two editions. Each entity may submit a single proposal that will contain a single project.

They can be requested by non-profit entities that were established before January 1, 2014 and domiciled in Navarra. The amount of aid for each project may not, in any case, exceed 65% of the accepted budget, which will be the one presented by the applicant, reduced by the amounts corresponding to ineligible expenses.

Applying this reduction, the amount of the aid will be that requested by the entity, provided that it does not exceed 9,000 euros. They can be processed online at the following link.

The last call distributes another 20,000 euros in aid for the organization of film festivals and competitions to be held in Navar

Film festivals and competitions must also have a cultural or artistic character and content and have previously held at least two editions. Each company or professional may submit a single proposal that will contain a single project.

They may be requested by independent professionals, a commercial company, or a civil company with legal personality that does not take the form of a commercial company; they must also have been incorporated before January 1, 2014 and be domiciled in Navarra.

The amount of the aid for each project may not exceed 65% of the accepted budget, which will be the one presented by the applicant, reduced by the amounts corresponding to ineligible expenses. As in the previous call, if the corresponding reduction is applied, the amount of the aid will be that requested by the company or professional, although it will never exceed 9,000 euros.

XVI Lanzarote International Film Festival 2016

April 7 to 16

Wednesday, April 6, 2016

Lanzadote International Film Festival 2016

Lukas Berger is convinced that the best way to get to know a circus is to join it.

This is what this Austrian filmmaker did for months: documenting the daily life of three circus companies, in Pakistan, Germany and Ethiopia, tracking them through 3G-free territories, working with them as a box office and clown, sleeping next to lion cages.

Jorge Muriel wanted to pay tribute to some complex, everyday and extraordinary microcosms: the neighborhood patios. His short is born from his memories, of when his aunt was a concierge on Esparteros street in Madrid.

Ryo Murakami managed to film in the rubber plantation that the Firestone company has in a town in Monrovia (Liberia) and captured the living conditions of the workers, which have barely changed since 1926. The director fell ill with malaria during the filming and died weeks then. He left but his work remains. Lanzarote will host the Spanish premiere of his short film.

Those of Lukas, Jorge and Ryo are three of the eighty looks that we will share from April 7 to 16 at the sixteenth edition of the Lanzarote International Film Festival (FICL), during the screenings of an Official Selection that this year brings together film productions from seventeen countries.

The Festival will be inaugurated with the premiere in Lanzarote of Evolution, a French-Belgian-Spanish science fiction co-production shot on the coast of Tenesar. A selection of Spanish films will be screened, a special screening of short films designed to be seen with the family will be organized, and a small window will also be opened to advertising cinema, a genre that innovates every second.

Lanzadote International Film Festival 2016

Some of the short films that we will see are first films; others are directed by seasoned filmmakers in dating like Sundance, Cannes or Rotterdam. They all form a representative catalog of a free and cross-border cinema that seems tailor-made for a territory like ours, a port open to the cultural influences of the four cardinal points.

Happy movie party! Let's enjoy.

The Philips Gran Vía Theater of Light illuminates the performing arts

Monday, March 14, 2016

Philips Lighting has equipped the interior and exterior of this historic theater with innovative, efficient and smart lighting solutions.

Philips Gran Via Light Theater Philips Gran Via Light Theater

One of the main leisure and cultural arteries of the capital, Madrid's Gran Vía, has among its historic buildings the veteran Gran Vía Theater that shines and stands out thanks to its new lighting, supplied by Philips Lighting. As a result of an agreement between the Dutch company and Grupo Smedia, this mythical theater has been renamed Teatro de la Luz Philips Gran Vía, thus beginning a new stage.

The building, which premiered and presented to the media on March 1 the innovative lighting of its facade and interior, has been completely renovated thanks to the latest lighting technology from Philips Lighting, which has provided it with efficient lighting solutions.

Philips Gran Via Light Theater Philips Gran Via Light Theater

The opening event was attended by Eduardo Mataix, General Director of Philips Alumbrado, who pointed out that one of the objectives is "to teach the world the latest technological innovations from Philips Alumbrado, in everything related to indoor lighting in theaters". He also stressed the importance "of private companies in doing patronage activities to strengthen cultural activities."

Built in 1944 under the name Teatro Gran Vía, this historic building with a capacity of 1,080 seats was equipped with imperial lamps from 1940 made of Bohemian glass. The low-consumption light from the lamps did not illuminate with the naturalness and majesty consistent with the structure of the theater. With the incorporation of Philips Lighting's LED technology, "we have once again recovered the essence and grandeur of those imperial lamps but, above all, we have once again recovered the cathedral space that the architect originally created for the public to enjoy. place where the oratory was celebrated through the stage ceremony", declared Enrique Salaberría, President of Grupo Smedia.

Philips Gran Via Light Theater Philips Gran Via Light Theater

What has been achieved is to integrate the use of light in the show, in the emotional sphere of the spectator. "Light recreates emotions. And that world is the one that we want to convey so that the viewer experiences an emotional encounter before the curtain rises and finds himself immersed in that world through light", stated Salaberría. Other objectives achieved with the integration of Philips Lighting's LED technology are savings in energy consumption as well as technical safety for spectators, artists and employees, since with LED lighting the overload of the electrical network is avoided, thus preventing fires, blackouts or other hazards.

The Philips Lighting team has carried out the development of a unique project for a building with these characteristics, both in the field of energy efficiency and technology. The renovation of the theater offers cutting-edge and innovative solutions that the company has developed.

Lighting at the service of the performing arts

First of all, the façade has been equipped with architectural lighting through control systems. The horizontal part of the marquee, in which the name of the theater is read, has the iColor Accent solution, which allows the color change to adapt to different events in the theater itself or to special days, although it will normally maintain white light. It is controlled by KiNET, an Ethernet-based lighting control protocol. The control system is Pharos.

Philips Gran Via Light Theater Philips Gran Via Light Theater

When entering the lobby, you can see two chandeliers whose luminaires are controlled by Philips HUE, a system based on the ZigBee protocol that allows you to control the light and create different specific environments for each room through an application for Smartphone or Tablet. On the mezzanine level that gives access to the amphitheater, the PETALO and HOPE lamps (luminaires from LUCEPLAN) have been placed.

In the auditorium, the lighting has been conceived to give more life and highlight the value of the performing arts, be it opera, theater, monologues or musicals. Luminous Textile stands out when entering with LightVibes, two large 5 by 2 meter textile panels placed on the walls of the stalls, next to the stage, and which are capable of performing light and color effects, according to the preselected scenes of the function. of the day or according to music and video projections at concerts and shows. For this, these textiles are connected to a software system that allows programming the desired lighting at all times.

In the central aisle, the Luminous Carpet solution has been installed, a carpet illuminated with LEDs, the first installed in the whole of Europe, which leads to the stage and indicates the rows of seats and displays messages in real time according to the show.

The Philips Gran Vía Light Theater will also have a Philips Lighting product showroom for the home, with access from the Gran Vía itself, where all passersby will be able to discover the possibilities of the different ranges offered by the company.

Opening to the rhythm of an opera

To celebrate the beginning of this new journey, the Lírico Festival Company, together with the Mediterranean Philharmonic Orchestra, performed on March 1 some fragments of Rigoletto at the entrance of the theater, allowing all passers-by to enjoy the opera in the middle of Gran Vía Precisely, this opera in three acts by Giusepe Verdi has been the work with which this new stage of the theater with Philips lighting has been inaugurated.

Philips Gran Via Light Theater

During this opening ceremony, the building's façade was illuminated for the first time with a completely renewed image thanks to Philips Lighting solutions that, in addition to being energy efficient, have given this classic theater a unique character, turning it into a new icon of Madrid's Gran Vía as a representative of the union of lighting with the performing arts.

Almagro Comedy Corral

Wednesday, March 2, 2016

The Corral de Comedias is located in the Plaza Mayor, declared a National Monument on March 4, 1995.

It maintains the original structure of the Corrales de Comedias from the seventeenth century, today, the only example of theater fully preserved in the world of those corresponding to this type of theater; that occurred so much in seventeenth century Spain. Due to its popularity since 1977, the Almagro International Classical Theater Festival is held

Since 1955, Theater in the Corral de Comedias

Since 1955, Theater in the Corral de Comedias

On May 27, 1955, at the initiative of Jacinto Higueras Cátedra, director of the Spanish University Theater, the theatrical activity returned to this Corral de Comedias with the representation of two hors d'oeuvres by Miguel de Cervantes, "The careful guard" and "The altarpiece of las maravillas ", by the Spanish University Theater company that he directs. In view of the great success they obtain with Cervantes's hors d'oeuvres, a continuous theatrical activity will begin from then on in this Corral de Comedias de Almagro.

Structure of the Corral de Comedias.

It is a patio surrounded by 54 straight feet of reddish-colored wood (reddish clay that gives the town of Almagro its name). These rest on stone bases to protect them from moisture.

It has two floors with rooms and hooks to place the awning that protected the spectators in the hours of sun; as well as those of candles or oil lamps. In the courtyard there is a well located at the entrance where the lodge should have been to provide refreshments to the spectators.

Structure of the Corral de Comedias

Between the door to the street and the patio there is a paved hallway, as is the entire floor, with small pebbles, the one of the hallway shining the Cruz de Calatrava. In it he had installed an inn that worked regularly, whether or not there was a representation. In its left part there was a fire from La Mancha and in one of its pajeras appeared the deck dated 1725. From it a wooden gate was opened that communicated directly with the patio.

On the two sides they were occupied by merchants, soldiers, officials, people of a higher social level than in the rest of the patio that could only be occupied by common people and which would be called Patio de los Musketeros. "... they come together with their cape, sword and dagger and all are called knights, even the shoemakers, and these are the ones who decide whether the comedy is good or bad; and because they whistle or applaud it, they are called Musketeers , so that the fame and opinion of these poets depends on them ... "

The private rooms were located on the sides of the stage and were rented only to noble families, for a specified period of time. The dense lattices allowed to see without being seen. They had independent accesses from the rest of the building to maintain the anonymity of its occupants.

The stage, the place where it was performed, is located in the opposite part of the entrance and behind are the dressing rooms. The back wall has in its upper part a corridor with three balconies with railing that look out onto the scene, and on the right side the access door to the comedians. Under the floor is the moat, where the company was staying with all their belongings.

The casserole was the place from which the women watched the performance. This was required by the strict morality of that time. It was located opposite the stage, on the first floor of the building. The entrances were independent of the patio and corridors, and communicated with the entrance by means of one or more stairs. The corridor above the casserole was usually occupied by institutions, both civil and ecclesiastical.

The side corridors were between the casserole and the private chambers. They were divided into rooms that were rented to families. They are the antecedents of the box.

Lower part of the stage. Former Dressing Rooms of Knights
